June's Changes

As of June 1st we have some big changes happening in Voxant's Newsroom.

  • We will now be tracking impressions based on geography – moving forward, we will only be compensating you for impressions that come from North America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.
  • We are opening up the option of auto-play players to our entire network at a $0.50 CPM.
  • Impressions for text and image assets are now being paid at a $0.10 CPM.
  • MyRevenue will be under construction and will not reflect your correct revenue for the first week of June – stay tuned for some great new features when MyRevenue is back up!

How do I embed content from Voxant's Newsroom onto my website?

To embed content on your website, all you need to do is click on the “Embed” button next to the news you would like to publish on your website. You’ll be led through a step-by-step process where you copy the code snippet of the clip or feed you want. You then paste it into your blog or website and our player will stream the content on your site. It’s easy, secure, legal, free and best of all, you make money from the advertising revenue when the news is viewed on your site.

Step-by-step instructions:

  1. Hit the Embed button: or
  2. Enter your registered email address. If unregistered, enter any valid email address.
  3. Review Voxant's "Terms and Conditions" and check the "I Accept" option. Hit "Next."
  4. Choose a layout from the dropdown box and hit "Next."
  5. Click the "Copy" button to copy the embed code (There is no right-click to copy).
  6. Paste to your site and publish.

Where can I embed content? Can I embed content to MySpace or Facebook?

Voxant's Newsroom is currently compatible with most webpage coding methods and mainstream blog platforms. If you have a question about compatibility with your platform due to issues with our content displaying on that platform, please contact our Help Desk by filling out a Support Form request.

At this time, our content cannot be embedded within MySpace or Facebook. However, we do have a Facebook Application. You can add it from this URL within Facebook: http://apps.facebook.com/thenewsroom/

Why am I getting an “unauthorized” error message when I try to embed content to my website?

Voxant has contracts with its content providers that their content will not be placed on sites that can be deemed “inappropriate.” These sites include pornography, retail, and other restricted sites. If you believe that your site does not fall into this category, please contact us.

How do I embed within a Wordpress blog?

If you are experiencing problems embedding our JavaScript embed code with a Wordpress blog, Wordpress has provided some help here.

Do news stories or videos expire?

Most news content does not expire and will be available on your website as long as you like. However, sometimes a content provider (i.e. Reuters or AP) will set an expiration date for their content. If content has expired, the content will not load into the player on your webpage. A message alerting you that the content is no longer available will appear on the page instead.

Do you have news content in foreign languages?

We plan on publishing international content — most likely in Spanish first. Please stay tuned and provide feedback, because your perspectives can help us shape the offering to our user base.

What happened to the mash button?

As of September 20, 2007, Voxant's Newsroom now uses the word "embed" instead of "mash." This keeps us in line with common terminology and makes it easier for people to understand how to use our service.

What type of media can I embed?

Voxant Newsroom users can embed thousands of image, text and video items from our library. Every item offered can be embedded onto your site and viewed by your visitors. All you need to do is copy and paste the code provided to your site.

Is there a limit to the amount of content I can have on a web page?

We recognize all websites are different and do not put an explicit limit on the number of items you can put on a page, however, we recommend no more than 3 items per page. Pages with more than 3 items are reviewed by our fraud team for possible violation of our Member Agreement, which requires viewers having a genuine interest in the content. We reserve the right to remove our content from sites that are in violation of the Member Agreement. Please be assured that reviews by our fraud team will contain notification to you before any action is taken, unless you are considered to be in blatant violation for Pornography etc. All our stipulations are contained in our Membership Agreement located here.

What is the difference between a feed and a playlist and do playlists, including Editor’s Picks, get updated automatically?

A feed player can be embedded straight from categories and sub-categories within Voxant’s Newsroom (an example of a category would be World News and an example of a sub-category would be Europe News). A feed player can be custom built by you to include keywords and parameters that you define. For example: Date=Last 7 days and/or Provider=MTV. Feeds are limited in that you cannot take out particular stories and you cannot manipulate the positioning of those stories within the player. Feeds are, however, updated automatically as new content becomes available in Voxant’s Newsroom - this means that the feed on your site is also automatically updated.

A playlist is built by you – you simply hand-pick particular stories and “tag” them in a playlist. As these assets are hand-picked by you, the playlist does not get updated automatically on our end, but can be customized by manipulating the positioning of the stories within the playlist. This type of playlist will continue to be displayed on your site as long as you desire and as long as the content provider continues to publish those particular stories. Of course, you may go into your myPlaylist and edit and re-embed it at any point.

Editor’s Pick playlists are the "best of" news within each category, hand-picked by our Editorial team. They are either automatically or manually updated by our Editorial Team as new content becomes available and like feed players, they will be constantly updated on your site. Please note that playlists selected from the Editor’s Picks may become unavailable within Voxant’s Newsroom at some point but this does not mean that the playlist you have pre-embedded suddenly disappears on your website. It will remain there unless you choose to delete it.

Why is my Custom Feed only displaying 25 videos now when it used to display more?

The total number of videos allowed in a custom feed has now been lowered to 25 videos per feed - this will improve the quality of the content found and allow for an increase in relevant search results.

Older videos can be displayed through these methods:

  • Change the search parameters: By changing search parameters the scope of the search is narrowed and you can find more specific videos.
  • Change the relevancy settings to find more videos related to search topic.
  • Create a playlist in addition to a custom feed: Creating a playlist allows you to archive and display old material while the custom feed will update with the latest videos.

TECHNICAL QUESTIONS

My Player has an error message. Why might this be happening?

The most common reason this occurs has to do with Internet Explorer 7's security and privacy features. Our player requires the user to download ActiveX content from an external source and for javscript to be active within the player context. For this reason, we recommend not only having the latest Adobe Flash Player, but also setting your security settings to Medium High.

I am getting the following error message where the news should be: “Voxant Newsroom player could not detect the origin of this page and cannot play the news story” using the old object embed code. What is happening?

There are a variety of reasons that this error message occurs. You may need to enable JavaScript in your browser. The website or blog site you are using has not enabled JavaScript. Find out more.

I receive a message saying "This story cannot be viewed from your location." My Site has been blocked. Why?

Sites may be blocked if they are found to be in violation of our terms of service. This can happen in the following ways:

  1. URLBlacklist.com has identified your site as a site not meeting our terms and conditions.
  2. You have been identified by our Fraud team as not meeting our Terms of Service and Membership Agreement.

If you have a blocked site and feel that your site meets our terms and conditions, please check the following:

  1. URLBlacklist.com sometimes blocks sites at the domain level, even though your content may meet our terms and conditions. For this case, you will need to contact URLBlacklist.com and provide this organization with your website address to ensure your domain becomes unblocked. A Domain is the web address without the www. and nothing following the .com eg, yoursite.com
  2. We may have blocked your site for not meeting the terms and conditions. If this has occurred and you feel it is in error, please contact our Help Desk by filling out a Support Form request.

Why am I getting a "There were no matching stories found for this feed" error?

If you have created custom feeds for your website, you may be experiencing the following error message in your feed player: "There were no matching stories found for this feed". There is a simple fix for the problem.

  1. Log-in to the Newsroom.
  2. Re-save your feed(s).

This will push the feed to your website and after the page reloads, the feed will display.

Can I receive a smaller sized player?

We have launched a new headline player that is 180x400 which is ideal for blogs and sites with a narrow left or right hand margin that did not work as well with our standard player sizes. While you may have noticed no advertisement on the player itself, the videos have the required advertisement that generates the ad impression allowing you to receive revenue. This headline player is available when embedding video feeds or video playlists. Additional small players are expected soon.

Why are some categories and sub-categories no longer available within Voxant's Newsroom, and how does this affect me?

You may have noticed that some of the categories and sub-categories have been removed. This has been a necessary step in order to update and optimize them. This does not mean that the feed you embedded from a pre-existing category or sub-category is no longer available on your site. The feeds stories are still in our inventory and the feed will continue to be viewable as long as the stories within that feed continue to be published by the respective content providers.

Why is there no RSS generated after creating a custom feed?

There is a 15 minute delay in generating the RSS after you create a custom feed. If you still do not see RSS availability after this duration please contact Voxant's Support.

Why does the embed button not display the headline widget in the layout?

When previewing the widget, after creating a video feed and selecting "save and view," please select Widget from the Skin Options and Copy the code from the Embed Code box.

What wildcards does the search function recognise?

Voxant's Newsroom search recognises two wildcards; * and ?

An example of a * wildcard search: "rollersk*" will return "rollerskating", "rollerskater", "rollerskate", "rollerskates"

An example of a ? wildcard search: "Mi?rotech" will return content that contains the term "Mikrotech" or "Microtech"

Is there a fee to embed content?

There is no fee to embed content from Voxant's Newsroom to your site. All the content is fully licensed and supported by advertising revenue — which you share when you are a member of Voxant.

As a web publisher, how do I earn money from embedding content from the Voxant Newsroom?

Each time video news content with an advertisement is played by your viewers, you'll earn a flat-rate CPM (Cost per thousand plays). You will also get paid each time text articles and/or images, with an advertisement, are rendered - or drawn - on your website by your viewers. As a registered participant of Voxant's Newsroom, we track your success. See the Getting Paid section for exact pricing. Be sure to register as a member of Voxant to get paid.

How do I find out what my current earnings are?

As a registered participant of Voxant's Newsroom, we track your success. Each time you login, be sure to click on myRevenue to chart your earnings!

How will I be paid for the advertising revenue generated from content that is embedded onto my website?

Every news item from Voxant's Newsroom is combined with an advertising message when you embed it onto your site. When someone views it you earn a portion of the advertising revenue (see the Getting Paid section for exact pricing). Once the revenue you have earned reaches $50.00, you will receive a payment. Payments are made on a monthly basis, provided you have accumulated a balance of $50.00 or more. Please make sure that your Profile is updated with your correct address so that we can pay you. If you have any questions, please contact us.

What is the Voxant billing cycle?

When you reach $50 in revenue in a given month, your payment will be paid by the end of the following month - for example, if you reach $50 in September, your payment will be processed at the end of October, and you will receive payment in November.

Please make sure your address is correct in the Payment Information section of myProfile and that you have turned in the appropriate tax form so your payment can be made to you. Stay tuned to our Blog for any news about payment options.

Why don't my numbers match your numbers in myRevenue?

Voxant reconciles impression numbers through several independent sources, and there are many reasons your numbers may not match with ours. Here are a few typical reasons for inconsistent numbers:

  1. The content you embedded did not fully load - this happens most often when someone surfs off a page in less than 10 seconds or when you have more than three of our players on a single page.
  2. For video, sometimes people think we pay on render - we actually pay on impression or "play". Generally, video is played about 10-20% of the time.

These are just a few of the many reasons your impression count may be different than ours. Please be assured our numbers are independently verified by several sources to make sure they are accurate and in compliance with our content provider and advertiser agreements.

Is myRevenue tracked by email address or by website? Are earnings tracked across multiple URLs?

Your revenue numbers are tracked by the email address with which you embedded only if you have registered. It is possible to track earnings from multiple websites as long as you enter this email address every time you embed content and only if you have used that email address in registering in Voxant's Newsroom.

Can I trust the impression numbers displayed on my account in myRevenue?

We compare and audit our internal numbers with an independent third party-DoubleClick. DoubleClick is an industry leader for serving ads and provides its customers with ad metrics.

Do I need to fill out IRS forms to be paid?

Yes, Voxant must have a W8 or W9 form on file for you in order to release payment. Please download the appropriate form from the IRS, and mail it or fax it back to us.

Due to security reasons, we cannot accept a completed form in electronic format. So, please do not email your form to us.

How do I know if Voxant received my tax form?

We have created a warning flag in your myRevenue Account History page that says "Tax Form required for payment". Please note this warning flag is updated manually and periodically and if you have sent your form in within the last week may not be accurate. Please give us 7-10 days before inquiring about your status. If you are receiving this message in your myRevenue Account History page and have had previous acknowledgement that your tax form was been received more than a week ago, drop us a line so we can correct the problem.

If you do not see this message in your myRevenue Account History page it is an indication that we have the necessary Tax form on file from you.

If you have not sent in your completed tax form, please go to the FAQ above to download the relevant form and follow the instructions on how to send. Please remember we will not accept electronically received tax forms, so no email attachments please. Your myRevenue Account History page should be updated within 10 days of our receiving your form.

What is Paypal?

Paypal is a very simple automated way of making payments online. For more information visit www.paypal.com

Why is Voxant's Newsroom now using Paypal?

After several months of payments via check we have decided to make all future payments, to our users, via Paypal as it is both a quicker and more secure method of payment.

Can I still receive a check now that Paypal is available?

PayPal is now Voxant's sole method of payment to all users in every circumstance and in every country. This may mean that if you are not eligible for PayPal in your given country you may need to open a US bank account in order to be paid by Voxant. We no longer offer checks or wire transfers as a form of payment.

What countries are eligible for Paypal and what if my country is not eligible for Paypal payments?

If your country is not supported by PayPal (find all eligible countries here), please contact Support. A country is still considered eligible even if PayPal charges a processing fee. Voxant's Newsroom is not responsible for individual processing fees.

What if I do not want to sign-up for Paypal in order to be paid?

Our policy is that if you do not have a Paypal account, unless you are not eligible, we will not process payments to you.

How long do I have to sign-up and confirm my Paypal account as active?

You have until April 15th 2008 to sign-up for Paypal and have your correct details entered into your Payment Information page in Voxant's Newsroom. If you have not done so by this date Voxant's Newsroom will withhold payments to you.

Why am I not seeing a payment from Voxant's Newsroom in my Paypal Account?

If your payment cannot be processed by Paypal due to an invalid Paypal account or an incorrectly entered Paypal email address, payments for that payment period will be withheld.

If after several months your payment cannot be processed by Paypal, your payments from Voxant's Newsroom will be forfeited.

PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU ENTER A VALID PAYPAL ACCOUNT ID OR EMAIL ADDRESS.

Can I have a different sized ad or ads without content?

The Voxant Newsroom is a place to find relevant, licensed, monetized content that you can embed on your site. We are not an ad network, and as such, do not offer standard ad sizes or ads without content. We want to provide you content to distribute while also offering you a cut of the advertising revenue. And we hope that you are able to find content that is relevant and suitable for your site. Please let us know if you have an questions about the content we offer.

Can you play post roll advertising instead of pre-roll advertisements?

We are actively pursuing all types of advertising partnerships including post roll. As soon as we have inventory available, we will provide players with this service to members in the network.

Why do I receive the same ad over and over again?

While we make every effort to ensure that your users receive a variety of ads (called Share of Voice in Ad-Speak), our ad trafficking system has been set up to play advertisements as we receive them. We currently subscribe to several ad networks to ensure we have a number of ads available. However, since Ad inventory is limited and tied to specific sizes, sometimes we run out of ad inventory (this is a problem that occurs industry wide). We are working hard to solve this problem to provide more and different types of ads for your audience.

Why do I not see an Advertisement?

Ad serving turns out to be a complicated business. In our case we work with DoubleClick and several third party ad networks to ensure advertisements are served on our network. When an ad is not served because of a technical error, we make every effort to provide your audience with content-to ensure your users with the most pleasing user experience.

Why is there no click-thru on advertisements when using Firefox?

If you are experiencing problems with advertisements not clicking through to the target ad website, while using Firefox, this maybe due to an enabled pop-up blocker. Try disabling your pop-up blocker and refreshing the webpage.

The most important reason to register with Voxant is that we cannot pay you unless you are a member. So, join now!

Is the Voxant Newsroom available to individuals or only organizations?

All the content in the Voxant Newsroom is available to publishers of all sizes, from large media organizations to individual bloggers. If you have a site that publishes content, you can embed content from the Voxant Newsroom.

How do I get my content into Voxant's Newsroom?

In the future you’ll be able to upload your own content to Voxant's Newsroom. If you are interested in this capability, be sure to register and we’ll update you when it’s available.

What are the software requirements?

To play content you’ll need Flash 9. Download it here if you don’t have it yet.

What do these terms (render, impression, play) mean?

A render happens every time the video, text, or image is drawn on the screen.

A play refers to a video being viewed on the screen, whether this is by someone hitting "play" or from the auto-play.

An impression is counted - and you are paid - when text or images are rendered on the screen and when a video is played. The exact pricing can be found in the Getting Paid section.

Do you have a referral program?

Our referral system is the embed button! Put the content on your site and encourage people to embed from your site. You get a bonus CPM for anyone who embeds from your site.

We do not currently have a referral program for new people who sign up for Voxant from your recommendation.

Why is NewsPERKS changing?

The goal of NewsPERKS is to reward members of the network that are of the greatest value to our advertisers and content providers. As the needs of those partners change, so will NewsPERKS. The recent change was based on feedback from members of our network and evaluations of the effect of the program over the course of 6 months. The changes to the program, including who is invited to the program and how points are calculated, are designed to help increase the value of our distribution network.

What is your Membership Agreement?

Our Membership Agreement sets the policy for how you display content we have licensed on your site. Any violations of this policy could result in content being blocked from your site.
